RootsIreland.ie is the database run by the non-profit Irish Family History Foundation, coordinators of the county genealogy centres network. It offers access to 20+ million Irish records held by these centres. The records available include:
• Baptismal/Birth records
• Marriage records
The indexed Catholic transcriptions now link up with the National Library of Ireland's unindexed images of Catholic parish registers if there is one. See Catholic Parish Registers up to 1880 at the NLI
• Burial/Death records
• Census records
• Gravestone Inscriptions
• Griffith's Valuation for Ireland
• Irish Ship Passenger Lists
• Census Substitutes for Ireland
There is no free name search but when you register (free) you can view 100 pages of search results at no charge but a subscription (24 hours, 1 month, 6 months or 12 months *) is required to view a detailed record transcript (no original record images are available). There are 29 of the 32 counties online, though the records available vary from county to county. Make sure you read the search tips and online help to understand how to best use the site. If you search on a county by county basis you can view the Sources list for each individual County Genealogy Centre. This allows you to see what records are available, if they cover the parish or area of interest and the correct time frame.
* Note: Subscribers must be individuals working on their own family history and a fair usage policy of 400 views in 24 hours, 1,000 views in 1 month, 7,000 views in 6 months and 15,000 views in 12 months applies.
TIP: Be aware that many of the records on this site are freely available elsewhere. These include the 1901 and 1911 census, Griffiths Valuation, civil registration indexes and Catholic parish registers.
