This site offers access to the National Library of Scotland’s online collection of 1,800 broadsides 1650 to 1910. These single sheets were the tabloids of their day and carried public information, ballads and news. They were sometimes pinned up on walls in houses and ale houses. Topics covered included crime, politics, romance, emigration, humour, tragedy, royalty and superstitions. Each broadside has a detailed commentary and most have a full transcription of the text, plus a downloadable PDF facsimile. Searches are available by keyword, browse by title or browse by subject.
