This digital archive offers full-text and full-image articles for significant newspapers dating back to the eighteenth century. The Chinese Newspapers Collection 1832-1953 has 23 English titles available. Search options for this collection include an obituaries search.
TIP: The Chinese Newspapers Collection and other collections can be accessed for free from home using eResources. Libraries that currently have ProQuest Historical Newspapers as an eResource are the State Library of New South Wales and the State Library of Victoria. If you live in either state all you need is to do is apply online for a library card from your state library and use the card number for access.

The Google News Archives was an extension of Google News but was discontinued in 2011. The archive went live in 2006 and offered users access to a historical archive of digitised newspapers (60+ million pages) from around the world, dating from the 1800s. The content of the archive is still available with reduced search capabilities. This site lists alphabetically by title the digital newspapers in the Google News Archive. It also lists the number of issues, date range and has a link to the newspaper collection. Australian newspaper titles available include The Sydney Morning Herald 1830-1989 and The Age (Melbourne), 1854-1989.
TIP: As searching is limited please read the Archive Search Help - About using Google News Archive search to learn how to search this archive effectively. Alternatively do a Google search for Search Google News Archive filter the results by YouTube and you will find several good videos. Choose the recent ones (in the last few months) to view.

This site offers access to the National Library of Scotland's online collection of 1,800 broadsides 1650 to 1910. These single sheets were the tabloids of their day and carried public information, ballads and news. They were sometimes pinned up on walls in houses and ale houses. Topics covered included crime, politics, romance, emigration, humour, tragedy, royalty and superstitions. Each broadside has a detailed commentary and most have a full transcription of the text, plus a downloadable PDF facsimile. Searches are available by keyword, browse by title or browse by subject.
